Jeep Patriot Drive Shaft

The Drive Shaft of Jeep Patriot automobiles is another essential system that joints the mechanical power and torque from the engine or transmission to the drive wheels and provide efficient power transferring. This metal rod is going to withstand torsion and shear stresses and at the same time its cross-sectional area has to be kept as small as possible to reduce inertia. Depending on the need of the Jeep Patriot's drivetrain, the Drive Shafts used vary from a one-piece and two-piece Drive Shaft. The Jeep Patriot is available in the four-wheel and all-wheel drive systems where the vehicle is fitted with multiple Drive Shafts where the power is transferred between the front and rear axles with the aid of transfer cases. The most integral part of this method is the integration of universal joints also known as splined joints which provide flexibility in the distance and also the alignment that is required for the vehicle.

Jeep Patriot Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a drive shaft on Jeep Patriot?
    A:
DO NOT allow the driveshaft to hang from the front, rear or center support bearing - always support the driveshaft. Damage to the joints, boots or center support bearing may occur, resulting in vibration. Note: The manufacturer recommends replacing driveshaft fasteners with new ones when installing the driveshaft. First, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Place the shift selector lever in neutral. Use chalk or ascribe to index the relationship of the driveshaft to the differential pinion yoke and the flange at the transfer case. Remove the four fasteners and disconnect the rear driveshaft rubber coupler from the rear axle flange. Support the rear of the driveshaft. Remove the center support heat shield and remove the bolts attaching the driveshaft center support to the vehicle. Support the center of the driveshaft. With the help of an assistant, if needed, support the entire driveshaft and slide the end of the driveshaft out from the transfer case. Remove the driveshaft from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points: Make sure the marks you made previously are aligned. Tighten the fasteners.
