- Q: How should you disconnect and install the clutch master cylinder on Jeep Wrangler?A:The other precaution which should be taken before disconnecting any hydraulic lines or hoses is covering the vehicle since brake fluid is an agent which can cause damage to its surface. On 1993 and previous models, first procedure is to unscrew the lock nut on the left support rod and pivot it out of the way. Open the clutch master cylinder reservoir cap and pull out as much fluid you can with employing a suction gun or a large syringe. To remove the hydraulic line, use a flare nut wrench and do not round the corners, then remove the master cylinder mounting nuts and keep a record of the orientation of the nuts for future use. Free the pushrod from the clutch pedal, if required, loosen the upper mounting nut under the dash board and carefully extract the cylinder out of the firewall without any spillage of the fluid. For installation, place the cylinder against the firewall, put the lower of the two nuts and bolts in and tighten but do not fully use the nut and bolt to fasten the hydraulic line and fasten the end of the pushrod to the clutch pedal. Both for 1994 through 2006 models, the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and the hydraulic line connecting them are replaced as single assembly. Lift up the car and unscrew the nuts which hold the slave cylinder in place, and unbolt the hydraulic line from the body stubs. Subsequent to verifying the master cylinder filler cap is in place, loosen the lower mounting nut and detach the linkage from the clutch pedal. Carefully turn the release/master cylinder assembly in the outward position ensuring that no fluid from them spills. For installation, place the assembly against the firewall, put on the lower mounting nut and fit the pushrod. Last but not the least, lift the car, fit the slave cylinder push rod and then the hydraulic line was fixed. To the 2007 and further model, the disconnected hoses should be plugged as soon as possible in order to avoid fluid leakage. Eliminate the actuator rod from the clutch pedal arm, disconnect the reservoir supply tube, and the hydraulic line as well as the connector of the clutch pedal position switch. Push the clutch master cylinder upwards and turn anti clockwise to unlock and remove it from the brake booster and reassemble in a reverse manner, refill the clutch master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid and bleed the system.
