Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the belly pan from under the front of the engine. Drain the oil and replace the oil filter, followed by removing the starter motor and the bellhousing inspection cover from the front of the transmission. Detach the steering damper from the center steering link, support the front axle with a jack, and remove the lower shock absorber bolts. Lower the jack to allow the axle to hang free, then mark the locations of the oil pan mounting studs with paint for proper reassembly. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts/studs and carefully separate the pan from the engine block, gently tapping the side of the pan with a soft-face mallet if it sticks. If necessary, set the oil pan on the axle and remove the oil pump and pick-up tube, detaching the oil pump after removing the two attaching bolts. Slide the oil pan out to the rear, thoroughly clean the mating surfaces, and check the oil pan flange for distortion and warpage, straightening it if needed. Position new gaskets on the pan with Jeep Spray-a-Gasket or equivalent, applying RTV sealant at the corners where the gaskets join and coating the inside curved surface of the replacement rear gasket section with soap. Slide the oil pan up under the engine, reinstall the oil pump and pick-up tube, tightening the oil pump mounting bolts to the specified torque, then install the oil pan and tighten the bolts to the specified torque, working from the center out in several steps. Reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order of removal, check that the drain plug is tight, and add the specified amount of oil before running the engine to check for oil leaks.
