Jeep Wrangler Timing Belt Tensioner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Timing Belt Tensioner in 2.4L four cylinder engine on Jeep Wrangler?
    A:
Take out the Timing Belt then the bolt of the timing belt idler pulley and the idler pulley as well. Inserting hold tool M-11083, remove camshaft sprocket bolts next to front timing belt cover assembly, and after that, the rear timing belt cover bolts and consequently, the cover. Next, take out an AN/6H/BA lower timing belt tensioner bolt and the tensioner assembly also. For assembly place the timing belt tensioner in front of the engine as shown in fig:14 and do not tighten the lower mounting bolt. Place an engine bracket mounting bolt (M10) through the upper tensioner bolt hole and tighten it half an inch to three quarters of an inch with five seven turns. Loosen the lower tensioner bolt to the required torque and then, take out the upper bolt. Fit the rear timing belt cover and tighten the cover screws to the required torque. Go ahead and fit the timing belt idler pulley and tighten the bolt to the appropriate torque. Fit each camshaft sprocket in place in such a way that the pin of the camshaft fits into the respective hole in the sprocket; then while tightening the sprocket bolt, a suitable tool should be use to hold the sprocket in place tightening the bolt to the recommended torque. Last but not the least is to fit the timing belt.
