- A:To replace the shock absorbers on a vehicle, start by raising the rear of the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands placed under the frame rails. Support the rear axle with a floor jack placed under the axle tube on the side being worked on. Remove the nut and bolt that attach the upper end of the shock absorber to the frame, using penetrating oil if necessary. Then, remove the nut and bolt that attach the lower end of the shock to the axle bracket, again using penetrating oil if needed. Extend the new shock absorber as far as possible and install new rubber grommets into the shock absorber eyes. Finally, reverse the removal process to install the new shock absorber, making sure to tighten the mounting fasteners to the specified torque.Posted by MoparPartsGiant Specialist
