How to Remove and Install a front Control Arm? Posted by Customer

To remove the shock absorber, first remove the coil spring from it. Then, remove the nuts and bolts attaching the upper control arm to the mounting bracket, followed by removing the upper control arm from the mounting bracket. To inspect, ensure that the control arm is straight and replace it if bent. Also, inspect the bushings in the mounting bracket for cracks or tears and replace the control arm mounting bracket if necessary. For installation, start by installing the upper control arm on the mounting bracket with the bolt heads facing inward. Then, install the coil spring on the shock absorber and the upper shock mount/upper control arm assembly. Install the shock absorber as well. Next, use a floor jack to raise the lower control arm to simulate normal ride height and tighten the shock absorber clevis-to-lower control arm bolt. Finally, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts.

Disconnect the shock absorber clevis-to-lower control arm bolt and detach the clevis from the lower control arm. Then, disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the lower control arm and remove the bolts attaching the stabilizer bar bushing clamp to the front suspension cross member and the vehicle body. Lower one side of the stabilizer bar away from the lower control arm.
