Using a narrow electrical connector terminal tool, dislodge the sending unit terminals from the connector body, then install the terminals of the new sending unit into the correct positions in the connector. The remaining steps for installation are the reverse of removal.

Inspect the pump inlet strainer for cleanliness and any damage, cleaning it if necessary. Verify that the rubber O-ring groove is clean, and replace the O-ring if damaged. On AWD models, reconnect the internal fuel line to the bottom of the module, then carefully reinstall the module into the tank with proper positioning and the locating lug seated. Finally, align the marks and securely tighten the fuel pump module lock ring during installation. If the special tool is unavailable, alternative locking methods can be used.

To begin the removal process, relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the battery's negative terminal. Then, disconnect the electrical connector and fuel delivery line quick-connect fitting from the primary module. Before removing the primary fuel pump module, cap the module fuel line fitting and create alignment marks on the assembly and fuel tank for correct realignment during reinstallation. Use a special service tool or a brass drift to loosen the lock ring securing the fuel pump module and lift the assembly carefully from the fuel tank, ensuring the float arm of the fuel level sending unit and fuel pump inlet strainer remain undamaged. Be prepared for fuel spillage from the reservoir when removing the module.

Caution must be exercised when working with gasoline, as it is highly flammable.
