Q:
How to Remove and Replace a Radiator? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system and save the coolant if it is in good condition. Remove the upper radiator hose. Remove the plastic panels between the radiator support and the top front of the front cover by pulling up on them. Remove the cooling fan assembly. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the lower engine splash shield. Remove the lower radiator hose. Remove the lower mounting fasteners that attach the air conditioning condenser to the radiator. Remove the radiator mounting brackets from the radiator support. Remove the upper mounting fasteners for the air conditioning condenser and carefully separate the condenser from the radiator. Tilt the radiator towards the engine and lift it from the engine compartment, being careful not to damage the air-flow seals on the top and bottom of the radiator, spill coolant on the vehicle, or scratch the paint. Make note of the location and condition of all rubber mounting bushings and replace them if necessary. Inspect the radiator for leaks and damage and have it repaired if needed. Remove bugs and dirt from the front of the radiator with a garden hose, compressed air, and a soft brush, being careful not to bend the cooling fins. Inspect the radiator mounts and ensure they are free of debris. Install the radiator by reversing the removal procedure and tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water. Start the engine, check for leaks, and recheck the coolant level after the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
