    Q:
How to remove and install the camshaft, replace the camshaft seal in 4.0L V6 engine on Dodge Nitro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then remove the air filter housing and the coolant recovery bottle/washer fluid reservoir. Next, take out the cooling fan shroud fasteners, disconnect the electrical connector to the electric fan, and remove the shroud, followed by the fan/viscous fan drive assembly. Remove the upper intake manifold, drivebelts, and drivebelt tensioner, then take out the alternator. Remove the air conditioning compressor mounting nuts/bolts and secure the compressor out of the way using wire. Rotate the engine to TDC and remove the timing belt, then take off the valve covers and the rocker arm assembly. Place a wrench onto the flats on the timing belt sprocket, then use a ratchet and socket to remove the camshaft sprocket bolt and sprocket, ensuring not to mix up the camshaft sprockets as they must be reinstalled on the same camshaft. If working on the right cylinder head, remove the EGR valve. Next, remove the rear timing cover fasteners and the timing cover, discarding the O-ring seals while noting the various types and sizes of bolts for reinstallation. Remove the camshaft thrust plate fasteners and the thrust plate(s) from the rear of the cylinder head, then carefully slide the camshaft out of the cylinder about 3-1/2 inches. Use a small screwdriver or punch to drive the seal out of the cylinder head towards the rear. For installing the new seal, fabricate a seal installation tool or use a large socket to drive the seal into place, ensuring not to damage the sprocket positioning pin on the end of the camshaft. Install the pulley onto the camshaft, holding it with a large wrench while tightening the bolt to the specified torque. Finally, reinstall the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

    Q:
What should be done after removing the Camshaft Seal for the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
Thoroughly clean and inspect the seal bore and the seal journal on the camshaft, ensuring both are clean and smooth. Use emery cloth or 400-grit sandpaper to remove small burrs.
