- A:The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is monitored by the computer. If the TPS malfunctions, a trouble code is stored in the computer's memory. To remove the TPS, disconnect the negative battery cable and unplug the electrical connector. Then, remove the TPS to throttle body screws and withdraw the TPS from the throttle shaft.
