- A:Driveshaft center bearing replacement requires the use of a hydraulic press. Remove the driveshaft and have a repair shop or automotive machine shop remove the bearing. First, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands and place the selector lever in Neutral. Then, remove the crossmember brace by removing the fasteners securing it. Next, remove the rear portion of the exhaust pipe(s) and the heat shield above the exhaust system. Use chalk or a scribe to mark the relationship of the driveshaft to the transmission flange to ensure correct alignment when the driveshaft is reinstalled. Remove the fasteners securing the driveshaft to the transmission flange and the fasteners securing the center support bearing. Again, use chalk or a scribe to mark the relationship of the driveshaft to the differential pinion flange. Remove the fasteners securing the driveshaft flange to the differential pinion flange and carefully remove the driveshaft from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
