Q:
How Do You Replace the EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid,Vapor Canister,Leak Detection Pump (LOP), or Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) Assembly on Chrysler Town & Country? Posted by Customer
A:
The Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system is responsible for absorbing fuel vapors and releasing them into the intake manifold during engine operation. The system includes the EVAP canister and Leak Detection Pump (LOP) or Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) assembly, located under the vehicle. The EVAP canister purge solenoid is located on the right side of the engine compartment. When the engine is not operating, fuel vapors travel through hoses from the fuel tank and intake manifold to the EVAP canister, where they are stored. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) purges the canister through the proportional purge solenoid. On vehicles with a Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC) type PCM, the EVAP system is equipped with a Leak Detection Pump (LOP) to test for leaks. On vehicles with a New Generation Controller (NGC) type PCM, a Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) assembly is used. To replace the EVAP canister purge solenoid, label and disconnect the EVAP hoses and electrical connector, then detach the solenoid from its mounting bracket. To replace the Leak Detection Pump (LOP), raise the vehicle, disconnect the electrical connector and EVAP hoses, remove the mounting bolts, and remove the LOP. To replace the Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) assembly, raise the vehicle, remove the mounting bracket bolts, disconnect the electrical connector and EVAP hoses, detach the NVLD from its mounting bracket. To replace the EVAP canister, raise the vehicle, loosen the mounting bracket bolts, label and disconnect the EVAP hoses, remove the mounting bolt, and disengage the canister from the mounting bracket.

Q:
Where is the EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid and Canister Located on Jeep Patriot? Posted by Customer
A:
The EVAP canister purge solenoid is located on the left side of the firewall, below the power brake booster. To remove it, first remove the air filter housing. Then, label and disconnect the EVAP hoses from the solenoid. Slide out the red lock and disconnect the electrical connector. Depress the retaining tab and detach the purge solenoid from the mounting bracket. To install, reverse the removal process. The EVAP canister is located behind the left rear wheel opening. To remove it, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector and hoses from the canister. Remove the mounting fasteners from the bracket and remove the canister assembly. To install, reverse the removal process.
