    Q:
What Should You Know About Inspecting and Replacing Engine Mounts in a V8 Engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are three powertrain mounts, include left and right engine mounts joining the engine block to the subframe, as well as a rear mount which is joined to the transmission and the frame. In the process of check the engine must be lifted slightly off the mounts to take off the weight of the engine. Chock the wheels and raise the vehicle on jack-stands and place a jack beneath the oil pan with a sufficiently large chunk of wood between the jack head and the oil pan, thereafter, lift the engine barely off the mounts. Check the mount insulators for signs of cracking, any indications of hardening or the fact that they are no longer attached to the metal center. There should be no relative movement between the mount and the engine or subframe; try to move the mounts by inserting a large screwdriver or prybar in-between them. If movement is detected, lower the engine and also use the mount fasters to tighten it. To dismount the mounts, remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, if not already done, and raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, and place the jack on the lower section of the engine oil pan supported by a large wood block. If removing the right side engine mount, then the alternator support bracket will have to be taken out also. Subsequently, it is possible to take out the mount-to-subframe nuts and then lift the engine employing the jack while the mount-to-engine bracket bolts should be taken out as well. Lastly, fit the new mount as it is placed correctly into the bracket and tighten the screws nicely.

    Q:
How to Inspect and Replace Engine Mounts in a 2.7L V6 Engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are three powertrain mounts, left and right engine mounts attached to the engine block and subframe, and a rear mount connected to the transmission and subframe. During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts. To do this, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the front wheels and tires. Position two jacks, one under the crankshaft pulley and the other under the transmission bellhousing, placing a block of wood between the jack head and the crankshaft pulley or bellhousing, and carefully raise the engine/transmission just enough to relieve the weight from the mounts. Inspect the mounts for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates, noting that the rubber may split down the center. Check for any relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or subframe using a large screwdriver or prybar; if movement is detected, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. To slow deterioration, apply rubber preservative to the mounts. For replacement, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the middle engine splash shield and the nuts holding the engine mounts to the subframe. Raise the engine with a jack and block of wood under the oil pan until the engine mount studs clear the engine bracket and subframe, then remove the engine mount heat shield and the bolts securing the engine mount to the frame. Replace the old engine mount with a new one, tightening the upper bolts to the specified torque, then lower the engine and install the engine mount nuts, tightening them to the specified torque as well.
