    Q:
How to disconnect and reinstall the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch on the Chrysler Town & Country? Posted by Customer
    A:
Take off the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Takeaway the knee bolster and the steering column covers, if any. Rotate the ignition lock cylinder to the ON position, press the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab, and take out the ignition lock cylinder. Lay in the upper and lower steering column covers. Switch on the ignition by turning the key and fit the ignition lock cylinder as well. Screw the cable on the negative terminal of the battery. Cautiously unscrew the one Torx sized head mounting screw used for the ignition switch. Push down the ignition switch retaining tabs and thus release the switch from the steering column. Pull the connector from the ignition switch releasing the connector tab; do not bend the connector. Prior to connecting the vessel to the ignition switch make sure that the ignition key is in ON position and the actuator shaft of the ignition lock cylinder housing is to ON. Another is when placing the ignition switch unto the actuator shaft the switch will go over the two retaining tabs. Be certain that the square receptacle in the ignition switch is in the ON position, line the receptacle and its actuator shaft before pushing the switch over the ignition lock cylinder housing until the tabs are locked. Fit in the upper and the lower steering column covers and then ground terminal of the battery to the cable connected to them.

    Q:
How to check and adjust Ignition Switch on Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
The automatic transaxle shift/ignition lock is a cable linkage system which couples the floor type shift lever with the ignition switch on the steering column, securing shift lever in the PARK position when the ignition switch is in LOCK or ACCESSORY position. In Off or Run position of the key, the shift lever can be manipulated. It also disallows the key in turning to Off or Accessory mode if the shifter is not engaged properly to Park mode. To check the system, shift the lever to 'Park', turn the knob pushbutton fully up so that the ignition key can rotate in a clock wise position to the Lock symbol. Hopefully engagement of the shift lever to Drive position should deter the key from advancing to Lock position. Unlocking the shift lever should be done with the key in Off/Run position and cannot be done if the key is in the Lock position. If the system is not working properly, corrections may be required from time to time. Unless the ignition switch becomes locked while the shift lever is in Park, turn the ignition to Accessory, then pull the shift knob and taking of the trim plate. Green plunger must be in the upper position and the cable slug must engage the interlock lever. While keeping the ignition switch in Accessory, it is then necessary to loosen the nut on the interlock lever to enable correct positioning of the interlock before tighting the nut to the required specification. Restart the system after uninstalling them in a reverse sequence and check for the results after adjustments.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch in a Dodge Magnum? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the key is hard to turn, the issue may not be the ignition switch or Ignition Lock Cylinder, but could be due to a misaligned transmission shift cable or Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) cable. To replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder, disconnect the battery, remove the ignition switch and instrument cluster bezel, insert the key and turn it to ON, depress the retaining pin and remove the cylinder. Ensure the key is in ON position and align the D-shaped lug with the socket before installing the new cylinder. To replace the ignition switch, disconnect the battery, disable the airbag, remove the knee bolster and reinforcement panel, disconnect the electrical connectors and BTSI cable, and remove the switch. The Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM) recognizes the key's encrypted RF signal, unlocking the doors and allowing the engine to start. If the key or SKREEM is replaced, reprogramming is required at a dealership.

Depress the retaining pin and remove the key lock cylinder from the steering column. Before installing the new key lock cylinder, ensure the ignition key is still in the ON position and align the D-shaped lug with the socket in the lock cylinder housing. Push the lock cylinder into the ignition switch until it clicks into place.

    Q:
What are the steps for replacing the Ignition Switch in non-tilt columns for the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Insert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the Ace position. Remove the steering column cover. It may be necessary to lower the steering column for access to the switch. Unplug the electrical connector. Remove the bolts and detach the switch from the actuator rod. Lower the switch from the steering column. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the switch is engaged to the actuator rod and any slack is removed before fully tightening the bolts.
