- A:To remove the tie-rod end, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Apply the parking brake and remove the wheel. Loosen the tie-rod end jam nut and mark the relationship of the tie-rod end to the threaded portion. Loosen the nut on the tie-rod end ballstud and disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm using a puller. If replacing the tie-rod end, unscrew it from the tie-rod and thread the new one onto the marked position. To install, connect the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle arm, tighten the nut on the ballstud, and install the wheel. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts.
