1986 Dodge Ramcharger Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to disassemble and reassemble oil pumps in V8 engine on 1986 Dodge Ramcharger?
A: For 318/360 engines begin by removing the cotter pin and then using a 3/4-inch drill to put a hole through the relief valve retainer cap then put a sheet metal screw in the hole. Install the screw in a vise, and hit the body of the pump with a hammer until the retainer cap is extracted. Subsequently, unscrew the bolts and eliminate lock washers to have the pump cover off and dispose of the seal ring. Next, in view of that, take out the inner rotor and remove the shaft Then, take up the outer rotor. For 400/440 engines begin with the removal of the filter base and the oil seal ring, then you remove, the inner rotor and the shaft and finally extract the outer pump rotor. Take out the relief valve plug, spring, and plunger out. Last but not the least, check and clean the oil pump and then rebuild by following the above mentioned step in reverse order.
