    Remove the oil pan on 318 and 360 cubic inch engines, then take out the oil pump mounting bolts and separate the pump from the rear main bearing cap for those engines. For 400 and 440 cubic inch engines, remove the bolts and separate the pump from the crankcase. Before installation, prime the oil pump by filling the pump cavity with oil. Install the oil pump and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque, ensuring that the pump pickup plate is parallel to the machined bottom edges of the crankcase.
