2013 Dodge Challenger Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace front Crankshaft Seal in 3.6L V6 engine on 2013 Dodge Challenger?
A: Remove the crankshaft balancer. The seal can be removed using a screwdriver or hook tool without causing harm to the bore of the oil pump cover or the crankshaft nose and sealing surface. Another way of un-bonding the seal is by making small holes on each side and installing self-tapping screws that will later help in pulling the seal by use of pliers without prying. Finally, if replacing the seal while the timing chain cover is off, place the cover between two pieces of wood and knock out the seal from the back using a hammer and punch; be careful not to mar the place where the seal fits for leaks. To this end, use clean engine oil or multi purpose grease to the outer perimeter of a new cover seal, and then fit it into the cover so that it lies with the lip inward and then use a seal driver or a large socket in hammering drive into the squareness and the required depth. Of course, should a large socket not be available a piece of pipe will suffice. Observe the state of the balancer hub surface and look for grooves that may have been created by constant contact with the seal, if such grooves are visible, then the balancer will have to be replaced. Apply clean engine oil to the balancer hub, place the crankshaft balancer on, the rest of the process is done in the reverse manner of the whole process.
