2016 Chrysler 200 Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace front crankshaft seal in 3.6L V6 engine on 2016 Chrysler 200?
A: Remove the crankshaft balancer. Use a screwdriver or hook tool to carefully pry out the seal, ensuring not to damage the oil pump cover bore or the crankshaft's nose and sealing surface. An alternative method for removing the seal involves drilling small holes on each side and inserting self-tapping screws, which can then be used with pliers to pull the seal out. If replacing the seal while the timing chain cover is off, support the cover on two blocks of wood and drive the seal out from the backside with a hammer and punch, taking care not to scratch or distort the area where the seal fits to prevent leaks. Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal and install it in the cover with the lip facing inward, using a large socket and hammer to drive it into place squarely, stopping when the front face is at the proper depth; a piece of pipe can be used if a large socket is unavailable. Check the balancer hub surface for grooves from long-term contact with the seal, as a replacement may be necessary if damage is found. Lubricate the balancer hub with clean engine oil and install the crankshaft balancer, with the remainder of the installation being the reverse of the removal process.
