Clean the engine block, oil pan, and crankshaft, ensuring the new seal and retainer assembly has the plastic installation sleeve in place. Apply a 1/4-inch bead of RTV sealant where the lower corners of the seal retainer meet the oil pan, then place the assembly over the crankshaft and push it squarely into position, ensuring the dowels in the seal retainer engage the locating holes in the engine block. Install the seal retainer bolts without fully tightening them, remove the plastic installation sleeve, and then tighten the bolts using an alternating pattern to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.
