Always disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect it last to avoid shorting.

To disconnect the battery, loosen the cable end nut of the remote negative terminal, disconnect the cable from the remote ground terminal, attach the plastic insulator portion of the cable to the stud, and reinstall the nut.

Before servicing the battery, it advises turning off the engine and all accessories and disconnecting the negative terminal cable.

The battery should be inspected for damage, corrosion, and loose connections.

Loosen the left-front wheel lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Remove the left-front wheel and inner fender splash shield. Also remove the engine under cover. Remove the fuse box assembly mounting bolts and position it to the side. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) mounting bolts, then position it to the side. If necessary, also remove the PCM mount for better access. Detach any wiring harness clips from the battery tray, then remove the battery tray mounting bolts - accessed by working from the engine compartment, fenderwell, and from below the vehicle. Remove the battery tray, rotating it as necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal.

When working on vehicle batteries, the following safety precautions should be taken, turn off the engine and all accessories. Disconnect the negative terminal cable. Work in a well-ventilated area for charging, as batteries produce flammable and explosive hydrogen gas. Handle battery electrolyte (containing sulfuric acid) with care, avoiding contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Use protective safety glasses and keep children away from the battery.

Memory-saver devices can be used by plugging them into the cigarette lighter and connecting them to a spare battery, providing sufficient current to maintain audio unit security codes, PCM memory, and power to always hot circuits like the clock and radio memory circuits.

Remove the air filter housing fresh air duct by rotating the retaining clips and taking out the duct. Disconnect the negative battery cable, followed by the positive cable, from the battery. Unscrew the bolt and remove the hold-down clamp from the bottom edge of the battery. Lift out the battery using special battery removal tools available at our website for easier handling. Installation involves connecting the positive cable first, followed by the negative cable. If equipped, transfer the battery insulator to the new battery when replacing.
