Q:

Disconnect and isolate the remote battery cable. Loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the wheel. Remove the push pins and the inner-fender splash shield from the left front wheel well. Remove and isolate the negative battery cable before doing the same to the positive battery cable. Remove the battery retaining bracket nut, then remove the bracket and the battery from the wheel well. Be careful.

Q:
How to Disconnect the Battery for Service Procedures? Posted by Customer
A:
Some systems on the vehicle require battery power to be available at all times, either to maintain continuous operation or to maintain control unit memory. When the battery is disconnected, the power that maintains these systems is cut. Therefore, it is important to take precautions before disconnecting the battery, such as removing the key from the ignition and keeping it with you to prevent it from getting locked inside if the power door locks engage accidentally when the battery is reconnected. Alternatively, memory-saver devices can be used to avoid these problems. These devices, typically plugged into the cigarette lighter and connected to a spare battery, provide sufficient current to maintain audio unit security codes, PCM memory, and power to always hot circuits like the clock and radio memory circuits. To disconnect the battery for service procedures requiring power to be cut from the vehicle, simply loosen the cable clamp nut and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. It is important to isolate the cable end to prevent accidental contact with the battery terminal.
