- A:To begin, drain the cooling system and save the coolant if it is still in good condition. Take caution to clean up any spilled coolant. Next, disconnect the reservoir hoses by sliding the hose clamp away with pliers and removing the hose from the reservoir fitting. Remove the reservoir mounting fasteners. Clean the reservoir with soapy water and a brush to eliminate any deposits and carefully inspect it for cracks. If any cracks are found, replace the reservoir.
