    Q:
How to remove and install Camshaft and Lash Adjuster in 5.7L V8 engine on Dodge Durango? Posted by Customer
    A:
2006 models are fitted with the Multiple Disposition System (MDS) that employs a specific camshaft that needs to be swapped with the kind used with the MDS design. First, put off the fuel pump and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the car battery. Have the cooling system flushed first and then remove the timing chain cover, timing chain and the sprockets and cylinder heads and lastly the radiator. Take out the slider rail mounting bolts and the sliders from the Lash Adjuster bores in the engine block and ensure that every Lash Adjuster has been restored to the bore it was removed from and also the right direction, which should be marked. Lash Adjusters should not be removed using pliers unless being replaced; this will harm their functions. Ensure you check with a dial indicator the amount of end play it has and make a note of any movement before you take out the camshaft. Use a pair of pliers and a wrench to unbolt and take out the camshaft thrust plate after which you use a long bolt to pull the camshaft. When the bearing journals are removed wash the camshaft and then look at the bearing journals with a micrometer to check for wear or damage. Every cam lobe should be measured and compared for height to detect a large difference. The lobes on the underside of the camshaft can be checked for discoloration, scoring or wear; provided they are still serviceable the camshaft does not need to be replaced. Visually inspect and clean the Lash Adjusters and camshaft checking that if Lash Adjusters are replacement a camshaft has also to be replaced. Before installing the camshaft, apply only a thin layer of installation lube on the bearing journals and lobes then cautiously position the camshaft into the engine in manner that does not harm the bearings. Replace the timing chain and sprockets, and apply clean engine oil to the Lash Adjusters before reinstalling them on their mounting points. The other steps of the installation process are the exact reversal of the above removal process. Lastly, change the oil with a fresh oil and a new oil filter, refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant, crank the engine for necessary amount of time to check the oil pressure and leaks, and run the engine at a fast idle for only up to 15 to 20 minutes to seat the new components, change the oil and filter after every 500 miles of usage.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Camshaft in 3.6L V6 engine on Dodge Ram 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Timing system is complicated and requires great expertise to dodge significant damage to the engine. In case you are unsure of what you are doing, better consult with an expert before making a trial at this process. Verify all your work for errors and make sure it is correct before beginning this process. Watch out that there shouldn't be any contact between the magnetic timing wheels on the camshafts and any magnets or magnetic fields after removing valve covers because they will need replacement. First off, disconnect the battery cable, drain engine oil as well as coolant; then take off drivebelt, air filter housing and resonator in order to initiate removal activity of intake manifolds after which all wires and vacuum hoses from cylinder heads must be disconnected, properly mark them for reinstallation. At first, remove the ignition coils together with spark plugs then remove valve covers lastly. With the valve covers removed, observe where camshaft phasers are located and indicate their positions for reinstatement purposes. Special tools are used to release tensioner so as to free cams phasers from camshafts .Undo both oil control valves on either side of each camshaft carefully taking away both intake and exhaust phasers from camshafts just like a ring can be slipped off a finger easily. After that rotate camshafts counterclockwise up to neutral position then loosen bolts on caps of bearing of shafts supporting rotating cams in place.Waiting long enough remove camshaft bearing caps lifting these components by hand.Later pull out rocker arms as well as hydraulic lash adjusters put marks on them too. Then check surfaces of bearings on cams for damage together with measuring heights of lobes mounted so that could find anything wrong.Restoring broken rocker arms should not only involve replacing defective parts but also checking shafts.Accordingly get clean engine oil dip into it hydraulic lash adjusters telling which locations they fitted earlier.Ensure rocker arm contacting points plus rollers are greased or applied with engine assembly lube and carefully put them back in their positions.Lower camshafts lightly greasing surfaces of bearing journals on them; insert camshafts into cylinder heads taking care not to damage these delicate parts.Fix all the caps for bearings of cams while tightening them with a specified torque.Rotating cams once, verify that neutral points have been set in all alignment holes.Slide intakes as well as exhausts slowly over shafts on which should be visible some marks fitting accurately.Equally the oil control valves will need to tighten up inside phasers by twisting them slightly beyond required pressure.Let go plunger from tensioner then turn round this machine to confirm alignment.Taking note, again mounting process is just opposite to removing.

    Q:
How do you set the Camshaft timing for the 2014 Ram 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To set the camshaft timing, you should rotate the engine in a clockwise direction until the "V6" or "VB" marks on the camshaft sprockets are in the 12 o'clock position. Apply alignment marks to the secondary timing chain links on both camshaft sprockets.
