    Q:
How to diagnose, adjust, and replace the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch on the Dodge Nitro? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the key is stiff to turn the problem might not be with the switch or Ignition Lock Cylinder but it might just be a problem with the key itself. If an automobile has an automatic transmission and the shifter is the floor console-mounted shifter the Park/Lock cable may need to be adjusted and if so is possible. In the NEC steel column, this cable is faulty within the steering related to it then the whole column has to be replaced. For the manual transmission cars, the small button located right behind the Ignition Lock Cylinder may be damaged, for which the steering column will have to be replaced. To retain the Ignition Lock Cylinder, the key should be inserted, shifter triggered to the Park in case of the automatic cars and then the steering column covers, the keyless entry module, and the circular ring around the Ignition Lock Cylinder are to be removed. Rotate the key anti-clockwise to bring the switch into the 'on' position and then use a small punch or any other tool in shape of a punch to change the position of the switch by inserting the tool through the hole at the bottom of the switch while turning the key to outside. The key could be removed as the cylinder was slided out. For a new cylinder, there is an insertion of the key, moving back to the 'on' position, correct positioning of the key inside of the required housing and finally, sliding it until it settles into the right position. Finally, turn the key to the Lock position and perform the reverse of the instructions mentioned above in order to install the lock. When replacing the ignition switch you have to take out the Ignition Lock Cylinder, then the mul-function switch and then remove wiring. A Torx screwdriver for the purpose is to be used to unscrew the switch and when it is done, the switch is to be removed by pulling it in a line with the top end of the terminal. During installation, one will have to switch them on before proceeding to twist and finally reverse the procedure followed in removing it.

    Q:
How to replace the ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch on the Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the ignition switch one has to remove upper and lower steering column covers, lock the steering column in the 'full-down' position, insert the key into the Legendary Lock and position it in the Run position. Pull back the small safety tab on the ignition switch and release the connectors, disconnect the larger connector by unscrewing the bolt that holds the switch in place and pulling the switch out of the steering column. For the lock cylinder, same as with the ignition, the upper and lower steering column covers have to be removed, the steering column has to be locked and key has to inserted in the Run position. If required, there will be a fastener to the skreem/wcm where the tabs can be removed and the skreem/wcm slid backwards slightly to reveal the lock cylinder release tab. With a small flat head screwdriver pull the lock cylinder release tab up and remove the key and the lock cylinder as a single unit. For installation, the key should be inserted into the lock and rotated backwards to the run position, it is also important to line up of the slots of the lock cylinder to the housing before it is inserted and clips into place. Switch off the key and try to rotate it and ensure that the key and the cylinder work correctly. The SKREEM/WCM which translates to Sentry Key Remote Entry Module or Wireless Control Module is very essential in the alarm system it has receivers for entry without use of keys and for tire pressure. It has a circular antenna through which it establishes contact with a microprocessor chip in the factory programmed key used in the ignition of the vehicle. The new SKREEM/WCM module shall be programmed by using a diagnostic scan tool before driving the vehicle and it is recommended that two keys at least should be programmed. To remove the SKREEM/WCM: Disconnect and set aside the wiper switch, unscrew the lock cylinder housing, pry the retaining arms of it back and slide the SKREEM/WCM module off. Installation instructions are the opposite of removal ones.
