    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and install the crankshaft pulley on Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the crankshaft pulley, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the right-front wheel. Then, remove the drivebelt. The crankshaft pulley bolt is very tight; use a breaker bar, socket, and special tool #9707 or equivalent to hold the pulley from turning while loosening the bolt, and then pull the crankshaft pulley off the crankshaft. For installation, apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the seal contact surface of the pulley hub to prevent damage to the seal lip and potential oil leakage. Install the crankshaft pulley, ensuring the keyway on the crankshaft aligns with the slot in the pulley hub, and install the bolt, tightening it by hand. Prevent the engine from rotating and then tighten the bolt to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation process is the reverse of removal.
