The fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator is located on top of the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module and can be removed without disturbing the fuel tank or the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module. To begin, relieve the system fuel pressure and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the rear of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Disconnect the fuel supply line connector from the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator by squeezing the tangs together and pulling on the female side of the fitting. Next, disconnect the ground wire from the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator by depressing the locking spring tab on the side of the filter/regulator and rotating it counterclockwise 90 degrees until the mounting flanges are free of the hold-down tabs. Remove the old rubber grommet and inspect it for any damage. If it is in good condition, it can be reused, but it is recommended to replace it whenever the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator is removed. Install the grommet. Similarly, remove the old O-rings from the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator and inspect them for any damage. If they are in good condition, they can be reused, but it is recommended to replace them whenever the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator is removed. Lightly oil the O-rings and install them on the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. Insert the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator into its receptacle on top of the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module, aligning the two mounting flanges with the hold-down tabs. Push down on the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator and rotate it clockwise until the locking spring tab snaps into position in its locating slot. Reconnect the ground wire to the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator and then reconnect the fuel line. Finally, lower the vehicle and reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
