    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and install the intake manifold on Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the intake manifold, first relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, remove the engine cover by pulling it up and off the ballstuds. Take out the fresh air inlet duct and the air intake duct between the air filter housing and the throttle body. Remove the ignition coils, followed by the fuel rail and fuel injectors as a single assembly. Disconnect the oil temperature sensor and unplug the electrical connectors from the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid, the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, and the intake Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, moving the electrical harness out of the way. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle body, remove the fasteners from the transaxle-to-throttle body support bracket at the throttle body end, and loosen the fastener at the transaxle end without removing it. Remove the wiring harness retainer from the intake manifold and move the harness aside. Label and disconnect the vacuum line(s) from the manifold, then remove the upper radiator hose retaining bracket fastener and secure the hose out of the way. If planning to replace or service the intake manifold, remove the throttle body; however, if only removing the intake manifold to service the cylinder head, it is not necessary to remove the throttle body. Remove the intake manifold fasteners and washers, then take out the intake manifold and the manifold gasket. For inspection, use a straightedge and feeler gauge to check the intake manifold mating surface for warpage, including the surface on the cylinder head. If warpage exceeds the specified limit, the intake manifold or cylinder head must be resurfaced or replaced. For installation, clean the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head with brake system cleaner, then use a new manifold gasket to install the intake manifold onto the manifold studs. Tighten the intake manifold fasteners gradually and evenly in the indicated sequence to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.
