    Q:
How to properly replace the oil pan and gasket in 2.5L four cylinder engine on Chrysler Imperial? Posted by Customer
    A:
Warm up the engine, then drain the oil and replace the oil filter. Detach the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the bolts securing the oil pan to the engine block. Tap on the pan with a soft-face hammer to break the gasket seal, then detach the oil pan from the engine, avoiding prying between the block and oil pan mating surfaces. Use a gasket scraper to remove all traces of old gasket or sealant from the engine block and oil pan, and remove the seals from each end of the engine block or oil pan. Clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone, ensuring the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean. Clean the oil pan with solvent and dry it thoroughly, checking the gasket flanges for distortion, particularly around the bolt holes. If necessary, place the pan on a block of wood and use a hammer to flatten and restore the gasket surfaces. Install new seals in the retainers at the front and rear of the engine block, applying a 1/8-inch wide bead of RTV sealant to the oil pan gasket surfaces and continuing the bead across the end seals, ensuring the sealant is applied to the inside of the bolt holes. Carefully place the oil pan in position, then install the bolts and tighten them in 1/4-turn increments to the specified torque, starting with the bolts closest to the center of the pan and working out in a spiral pattern, avoiding overtightening to prevent leakage. Finally, add oil, run the engine, and check for oil leaks.

    Q:
How to disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and replace the oil pan in 3.3L and 3.8L V6 engine on Chrysler Imperial? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, now, lift the front part of car and support it with jack stands. Engage the parking brake and jam the rear wheels for security. The process starts with the unscrewing of the lower splash pan and subsequent evacuation of the engine oil before going ahead and unscrewing of the lower flywheel or driveplate cover. next step is to pull out the starter, unbolt and un nut the oil pan from the block by using a soft faced hammer this should pop of the oil pan without causing any dents. Do not attempt to pry between the block and the pan to remove it since this will compromise on sealing surfaces, use pounding on the pan to release the gaskel. We clean the pan with solvent, to get all old sealant and gasket material off the flange surface, and make sure the bolts holes in the block are free. One must check the condition of the oil pan flange and in case of distortion, can be flattened with the help of a hammer on a wooden piece. Use RTV sealant to wet the bottom surface of the timing chain cover and the rear main oil seal retainer ,them install a new gasket to the oil pan flange. Ensure the oil pan fits on the block as you usually fit the nuts and bolts by using a crisscross pattern and tighten then to your desired torque in three progressive steps. Finally, add oil into the engine, start the vehicle and let it warm, and check of there is any signs of leakage.
