This procedure applies to both front and rear brake discs. To inspect the disc, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the wheel and reinstall the lug nuts to hold the disc in place. If working on the rear brake disc, release the parking brake. Remove the brake caliper and pads, making sure not to disconnect the brake hose. Suspend the caliper out of the way with wire. Visually inspect the disc surface for score marks and other damage, checking both sides. Use a dial indicator to check disc runout, placing it about 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the disc. If the reading exceeds the maximum allowable runout limit, the disc will need to be machined or replaced. Regardless of the dial indicator reading, it is recommended to resurface the discs to ensure a smooth finish and a perfectly flat surface. Check the minimum thickness of the disc using a micrometer. To remove the disc, remove the caliper mounting bracket bolts and the lug nuts holding the disc in place. Install the new disc by placing it over the wheel studs and tighten the mounting bracket bolts. Install the brake pads and caliper, tightening the caliper mounting bolts. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. Pump the brake pedal to bring the brake pads into contact with the disc. Bleeding is only necessary if the brake hose was disconnected. Finally, check the operation of the brakes before driving the vehicle.
