Q:
Where Are the Knock Sensors Located on a Dodge Dakota? Posted by Customer
A:
The knock sensors for the 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engines are located on top of the block in the valley between the cylinder heads, underneath the intake manifold. They must be replaced as a single assembly and are not available separately. To replace them, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector, which is located at the rear of the engine, behind the intake manifold. Remove the intake manifold and then remove the knock sensor assembly by taking out the mounting bolts. Make sure to clean the holes for the mounting bolts before installing the new knock sensor assembly. Note that the left knock sensor is identified by an identification tag and has a larger mounting bolt, so do not switch the knock sensors. For the HEMI engine, there are two knock sensors located on the left and right sides of the block below the exhaust manifold. To replace them, raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor and remove the mounting bolt. Install the new knock sensor by reversing the removal steps and make sure to tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.

Q:
How do you replace the knock sensors for the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the knock sensors, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector, which is located at the rear of the engine, behind the intake manifold. If you can't find the connector, wait until you have removed the intake manifold and locate the two knock sensors and trace their leads back to the common connector. Remove the intake manifold and then remove the knock sensor assembly by removing the mounting bolts. Make sure to clean the holes for the mounting bolts before installing the new knock sensor assembly. For 3.7L V6 engines, note that the left knock sensor is identified by an identification tag and has a larger mounting bolt. Do not install the left knock sensor in the right sensor mounting position and vice versa, as it will confuse the PCM and cause a Diagnostic Trouble Code. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure to tighten the knock sensor mounting bolts to the common connector.
