- A:To replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, start by partially draining the cooling system. Then, disconnect the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s). For the 3.6L V6, 3.7L V6, and 4.7L V8 engines, the ECT sensor is located either at the rear of the cylinder head on the left side of the engine or at the front of the intake manifold. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor and carefully unscrew it using a deep socket. Before installing the sensor, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape to prevent leaks. For HEMI engines, remove the drivebelt and unbolt the air conditioning compressor to access the ECT sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the sensor from the intake manifold. Wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape before installation. For diesel engines, remove the upper EGR tube and heat shield. Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the ECT sensor from the cylinder head. Wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape before installation.
