Verify that the accelerator pedal operates smoothly. If it doesn't, inspect the routing of the accelerator cable. Make sure that it's not kinked or pinched somewhere. If the cable appears to be correctly routed, with no kinks anywhere, remove the cable and see if the cable is binding. If it is, replace it. If the cable is okay, inspect the throttle shaft. Remove the air intake duct, then inspect the area around and behind the throttle plate for residue build-up. If it's dirty, clean it with carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush. Make sure that the can specifically states that it is safe with oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters. CAUTION: Do not clean the Throttle Position (TP) sensor or the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve with solvent. Doing so will ruin them. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the air intake duct. Disconnect the accelerator cable and cruise control cable (if equipped) from the throttle body. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor and from the Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Unscrew the throttle body mounting bolts and remove the throttle body. Remove the throttle body gasket and inspect it for cracks, tears, and deterioration. If it isn't in perfect condition, replace it. Make sure that the gasket mating surfaces of the throttle body and the intake manifold are clean. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the throttle body bolts to the torque.
