Before that the cylinder head and the oil pan have to be dismantled so as to take out the piston and connecting rod assemblies. First, search for any ridges at the upper limit of ring travel in every cylinder: they must be eliminated with a ridge reamer in order to avoid piston crack. When the ridges have been cut, orient the engine with its crank shaft horizontal and with the connecting rod and check the end-fit of the connecting rod using a feeler gauge to be certain that it falls within a specific range of end-fit. Make sure that the connecting rods and caps are distinguishable so that they are not mixed; turn the connecting rod cap bolts gently. This is done by first and carefully undoing the connecting rod cap and the bearing insert so as to pull out the connecting rod and the piston assembly out of the cylinder. This should be done for all the cylinders and once this is done, the caps and the inserts are reattached to cover the bearing surface. In piston ring fitting, ensure the following; the gap of the rings fitted should match, appropriate rings should be fitted to appropriate pistons and cylinders respectively. First you put the oil control ring then the middle and upper rings in the right position. Before fixing the piston assemblies, it is necessary to clean the cylinder walls as well as edge chamfering. Lubrication of the new bearing inserts is required at this stage but they are first inspected for fit and proper shape. Properly locate the gaps of the piston ring, grease the piston and the rings and in setting them, use the ring compressor. Once the piston has been installed the check the oil clearance of the connecting rod bearing with the help of Plastigage making sure that the correct size and condition of the bearing inserts are used. Remove any Plastigage that remains, lubricate the bearing faces, and place the new rod cap over the Connecting Rod Assembly, using new bolts that are screwed up to the requisite torque. Do this for all the assemblies to be done while being very keen to check the cleanliness of the equipment as well as the right positioning of the same. At last, turn the
Crankshaft in order to inspect binding and assure the right amount of connecting rod endplay and, in that case, make corrections.
