    Q:
How to remove and install Pushrod and rocker arm in 5.7L V8 engine on Dodge Durango? Posted by Customer
    A:
To do this you will need to remove the valve covers from the cylinder heads and the bolts that hold the rocker arm shafts in place and these bolts are the center bolts followed by the bolts at the extremity of the rocker arm shafts. After the last nut is fully loosened, carefully lift the rocker shaft assembly off of the cylinder head, being sure note the position betwen the upper intake and lower exhaust rocker arms so that they can be reassembled in their original orientation. Rocker arm positions should be recorded in order to reinstall them in the correct position; each set of components should be replaced and stored as they were found; and the pushrods should be removed and stored in an order to avoid crossing them up. It is important for one to note that exhaust pushrods are a little longer than intake pushrods not interchangeable. If the cylinder heads have been machined to a standard of flatness then it is crucial to 'shorten' the appropriate length pushrods to cover the now shorter distances of the rocker arms to the camshaft dimensions, unless consulting with a machine shop. For each rocker arm, check if there is wear, cracks, and damage on the surface that comes into contact with pushrods and or valve stems, and the rocker arm shafts and the bores should also be checked to establish if they have worn out and or damaged, a worn out or damaged part must be replaced. There must be free passage into the hole at the pushrod end of each rocker arm; bears checking for crackline and abnormal wear, pushrods can be rolled across a flat surface to check for bend. Coat the lower end of each pushrod with clean engine oil or assembly lube and install these into their original position and ensure that it seals fully into the lifter socket. Coat the valve stems and the upper ends of the pushrods with assembly lube for protection of any mating surfaces during initial start up, then lubricate the rocker shafts, the rocker shaft assembly should have all components located in their original positions before being installed in to the head of the cylinder. Tighten the rocker arm shafts beginning with the centre bolt, in a preset sequence till the appropriate torque is secured so that the pushrods fit tightly in the rocker arms. If bolts when installed appear light before the shaft is seated or if pushrods bind, all the components inside should be examined. Last, put the valve covers back on, crank up the engine, scan for valve train rattles and knock and look for oil leaks at the gaskets.

    Q:
How to remove and inspect rocker arms and lash adjusters in 2.7L V6 engine on Dodge Magnum? Posted by Customer
    A:
A universal shaft-type valve spring compressor will be required for this procedure. The only other alternative to accomplishing this task without the use of this special tool is to remove the liming chains and the camshafts which requires major disassembly of the engine and surrounding components. Before beginning this procedure, be sure to place the transmission in Neutral and apply the parking brake or block the rear wheels. Also, disable the ignition system by disconnecting the primary electrical connectors at the ignition coils and remove the spark plugs. Remove the upper intake manifold and the valve cover(s). Rotate the engine with a socket and ratchet attached to the crankshaft pulley bolt until the cam lobe for the rocker arm to be removed is located on its base circle. Turn the crankshaft in a clockwise direction. Before the rocker arms and lash adjusters are removed, arrange to label and store them, so they can be kept separate and reinstalled on the same valve they were removed from. Mount the valve spring compressor on the cylinder head. Depress the valve spring just enough to release tension on the rocker arm to be removed. Once tension on the rocker arm is relieved, the rocker arm can be removed by simply pulling it out. If you're replacing or removing all of the rockers arms or lash adjusters, begin with cylinder number one and work on the rocker arms for one cylinder at a time. Move from cylinder-to-cylinder following the firing order sequence. Remember to keep the rocker arm and lash adjuster for each valve together so they can be reinstalled in the same locations. Once the rocker arms are removed, the lash adjusters can be pulled out of the cylinder head and stored with the corresponding rocker arm. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks and other damage. Make sure the rollers turn freely and show no signs of wear, also check the pivot area for wear, cracks and galling. Inspect the lash adjuster contact surfaces wear or damage. Make sure the lash adjusters move up and down freely in their bores on the cylinder head without excessive side to side play. Installation is the reverse of removal with the following exceptions: Always install the lash adjuster first and make sure they're at least partially full of oil before installation. This is indicated by little or no lash adjuster plunger travel.

How to remove and inspect rocker arms and lash adjusters in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Dodge Ram 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To undertake this procedure, you will need a particular valve spring compressor. An alternative is to dismantle the engine heavily removing the timing chains and camshafts. Before commencing start by placing the transmission in park, apply parking brake or block the rear wheels and disable the ignition system. Remove the valve cover(s). Separate and put away rocker arms and lash adjusters properly labeled. Rotate engine's crankshaft clockwise until pistons are at their correct positions. Remove rocker arms from cylinders 2, 6, 1, 3 and 5 of V6 engines.Remove rocker arms from cylinders 2,8 ,3 ,5 ,4 ,6 ,1 and 7 of V8 engines.Depress the valve spring using a valve spring compressor then pull out a rocker arm.In case you are replacing or removing just several adjusters or rockers arm then turn your crankshaft into proper position only.keep them with matching groups of them.Once the rocker arms are removed, pull out the lash adjusters and store them with the corresponding rocker arm.Examine if there is wear cracks or damages on such parts like Rocker Arms And Lash Adjusters.Start by installing oil filled Lash Adjustors first but not fully full.

How to disassemble and inspect rocker arms and pushrods in diesel engine on Dodge Ram 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the wires from the batteries at their negative terminals. Then remove the valve cover. Mark and detach the rocker arm/pedestal assemblies. Mark and take off crossheads. Pin down rocker arm sockets before raising them out of cylinder head. Mark and remove pushrods. Remove, clean with solvent, and disassemble rocker arms, pedestals, and shafts parts. Check for debris by blowing through oil passages. Get each rocker shaft bearing surface inspected for replacement if necessary.Measure each inside diameter of rocker arm bore against each outside diameter of rocker shaft and replace if worn too much.Check for cracks and scoring on all pushrod balls and ball seats, replacing any that are damaged.Look for damage or excessive wear on all crossheads in which case those affected should be replaced.Place the pushrods into position lubricate valve tips then put in place crossheads.Re-lubricate the bores , rockershafts then recapitulate the assembly of rockershaft/rockerarm/pedestal.Ensure lubrication of both crossheads as well as those sockets receiving a pushrod are done then fix a set of rockerarm/pedestal.The process ends by checking valve clearance.Installation of valve cover here may take place where it is not already installed.
