- A:Start by removing the retainer or plug inside the vehicle and detach the cable end from the accelerator pedal shaft. Then, remove the retainer clip from the cable assembly housing at the grommet and pull the cable through the firewall. In the engine compartment, remove the retainer clip and separate the cable from the pin or stud on the throttle lever using needle-nose pliers.
