To perform an injector resistance test, remove the engine cover and disconnect the fuel injector connector. Use a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) to measure the resistance between the injector terminals. If the injector is not within specification, replace it. For V6 models, relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the air intake duct and upper intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail using a special tool. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors and set the injector harness aside. Clean any debris from around the injectors and remove the fuel rail and injectors as a single assembly. Remove the safety clips and injectors from the fuel rail, then remove and discard the O-rings. Coat the new O-rings with clean engine oil and install them on the injectors. Install the injectors into the fuel rail and secure with the injector clips. Guide the injectors/fuel rail assembly into the injector bores on the intake manifold and tighten the fuel rail mounting bolts. For V8 engines, relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the air intake duct and housing and disconnect the PCV hose. Disconnect the fuel supply line fitting from the right fuel rail using a special tool. Disconnect the electrical connectors from all eight fuel injectors and remove the fuel rail and injectors as a single assembly. To remove an injector from the fuel rail, remove the injector retainer clip and pull the injector out. Remove the O-rings from the injector, discard them, and install new O-rings. Install the injectors into the fuel rail and tighten the fuel rail mounting bolts securely. After installation, turn the ignition switch to On to activate the fuel pump and check for fuel leakage.

Remove the injector retainer clip and pull the injector out. Replace the O-rings and lubricate them before installing the injector back into the fuel rail.

A leaking fuel injector can cause various symptoms, depending on the severity of the leak. Symptoms may include fuel knock, poor acceleration and performance, low fuel economy, rough engine idle, and engine misfire. It is important to check for fuel line leaks before proceeding with any checks on diesel fuel injectors. However, it is recommended to have any checks on diesel fuel injectors performed by a dealer service department or other qualified diesel repair facility, as injector tests require special high-pressure testing equipment and adapters for accurate results. Removing and installing the connector tubes to the injectors and the injectors themselves requires expensive special tools, making it not recommended to attempt this job at home. It is generally more cost-effective to have this job done by a dealer service department or a diesel specialist.
