Take off the timing belt and the sprocket of camshaft. Take the tip of a small screwdriver and wrap it with tape and use it to gently remove the seal, try as much as possible not to scratch the camshaft journal in order to avoid leakage. Scrub and inspect the seal bore on the camshaft and it's journal so that they are clean as well as smooth; wash off small burrs with emery cloth or 400-grit sand paper. If there is grooving from the contact of the seal lip into the journal then it may mean that fitting a new seal will not solve the problem because the camshaft or the bearings in the caps could be worn and may require overhauling of the cylinder head, or replacement of the head or the camshaft. Apply a thin film of clean engine oil, or moly-base grease to the lip of the new seal and gently drive the seal in place with a heavy socket or pipe and hammer; very lightly if no socket is available drive this lip around the outer circumference of the bearing bore with the large flared end of a punch not cocking the seal in the bore. After that, the camshaft sprocket and the timing belt must be installed; now start the engine and check for leaks.

Remove the timing belt, then take off the camshaft sprockets and rear timing belt cover, followed by the exhaust camshaft target ring and sensor. Note the depth of the seal in the bore and carefully pry it out with a small screwdriver, ensuring not to nick or scratch the camshaft or seal bore, as damage could lead to leaks with the new seal. Clean the bore and apply engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal, as well as lubricating the seal lip. Using a socket with a slightly smaller outside diameter than the seal, gently tap the new seal into place with the spring side facing the engine, ensuring it is installed squarely and to the same depth as the original; a short section of pipe can be used if a socket is unavailable. Reinstall the rear timing belt cover and camshaft sprockets, followed by the timing belt. Finally, run the engine and check for oil leaks at the camshaft seal.
