1993 Dodge Colt Distributor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disconnect and refit a distributor on 1993 Dodge Colt?
A: Disconnect the battery negative lead, then unclip the distributor cap and move it aside, disconnecting the spark plug leads if necessary. Next, disconnect the LT lead from the terminal on the side of the distributor body and remove the vacuum hose from the distributor. Remove the distributor clamp plate mounting nut and withdraw the distributor. To refit, turn the crankshaft using its pulley center bolt until No 1 piston is at TDC on its compression stroke, which can be verified. Set the punch mark of the driven gear opposite the mark on the distributor body projecting sleeve. Hold the clamp plate so it passes centrally over the retaining stud and push the distributor into position; as the distributor gear meshes with the drive gear on the camshaft, the rotor arm will turn anti-clockwise through approximately 40°. Ensure the contact end of the rotor aligns with No 1 spark plug lead contact if the distributor cap is fitted. Adjust the distributor's position until the mating mark on the clamp plate flange aligns with the center of the fixing stud, then tighten the clamp plate nut. Reconnect the LT lead and vacuum hose, refit the distributor cap, reconnect the battery, and check the ignition timing.
