    Q:
How to remove the cylinder head in 3.6L V6 engine on Dodge Ram 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the head, you should first depressurize the fuel system and isolate the battery. Next, it is important to empty coolant and engine oil by taking off drivebelt, idler pulleys, air filter housing and intake manifolds. To do this you will have to disconnect all wires, vacuum hoses from cylinder heads as well as ignition coils and spark plugs. Removal of catalytic converter(s), valve covers, crankshaft pulley and oil pans is also necessary. Lastly depending upon the cylinder head in question, one may be expected to take out alternator, transmission & oil dipstick tube, air conditioning compressor or heater core tube. Besides removing these parts one must get rid of timing chain cover after rotating the crankshaft to TDC. Subsequently a mechanic can proceed to remove timing chain itself together with oil control valves, timing chain tensioner/chain guides/camshafts/rocker arms/lash adjusters. At this point it will be safe for any technician to partially unscrew cylinder head bolts until they can lift the head off block comfortably. Thereafter you are required to send off your cylinder head for inspection or servicing. Ensure that mating surfaces are clean and clear when fitting in a new gasket; if there is any damage file or machine if necessary; Line up new gasket onto dowel pins with caution as it positions on top of engine block; New cylinder head bolts have now become available, and they should be tightened in the prescribed order.tighten them according to prescribed order; Finish doing what remains including changing oil/filter and refilling cooling system; Begin checking for leaks while starting an engine whether there is proper operation of an engine.

How to remove and install cylinder heads in Hemi engine on Dodge Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
When removing the cylinder heads, it is important to relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the battery. Next, take off the drive belt and drain the cooling system. Take out the PCV and EVAP system components as well as remove cowl. After that, remove intake manifold and exhaust manifolds from cylinder heads. Remove steering pump mounting bolts and move aside pump. Remove valve covers, rocker arms, and push rods. Then slowly loosen head bolts in increments and remove them by hand.Meanwhile use a wooden block or strike a wood block with a hammer.Lift heads off engine by using a block of wood or by striking a wood block with a hammer.Afterwards, place heads on blocks of wood. When installing heads make sure that its mating surface is clean free from old gasket material and dirt.Clean surfaces with brake cleaner after scraping any old gasket material.Use a gasket scraper to scrape any old gasket material off these surfaces before applying brake cleaner on them.Inspect for damage here if necessary.Remember it is important to check thread in head bolt holes as well as cleaning bolt threads accurately.Make sure new gaskets are positioned correctly on dowels in the block.Heads should be carefully placed onto block without disturbing gaskets.Thread engine oil over head bolt threads then put bolts back into their original locations. If you are going to install new head bolts ensure you torque them right otherwise they will not tighten completely. Finally do this procedure but backwards.Add coolant; change oil including filter if installed; start engine to test run for proper operation and leaks.

    Q:
What is the removal and installation procedure for cylinder heads in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Regarding the cylinder heads, this removal and installation technique focuses on leaving the camshaft(s) as it is and retaining the exhaust manifold(s). First of all, the intake manifold should be removed before taking off timing chains, sprockets and guides. Then we go under the front part of the car securely supporting it before unbolting exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds. Any other things like coolant fittings, cables or brackets connected to a head must be detached after they are properly identified. The cylinder head bolts should be loosened in an opposite order to their tightening sequence so that warping or cracking will not develop. It is important that when lifting off the engine block, any external components should be taken away for complete cleansing and inspection; at this point also include any other attached parts such as hoses and wires. On reinstallation make sure that each surface between cylinder head and block is perfectly clean without carbon deposits old gasket remnants or oil traces which can influence gasket sealing action. To do this use a gasket scraper and wipe with lacquer thinner or acetone. Shop rags may have been stuffed into blocked cylinders in order to avoid falling debris while a vacuum cleaner may be used to remove anything that might go inside there during material pouring out. Moreover, surfaces where both block meets head must also be seen for checks about nicks as well as deep scratches needing filling up or even machining it if necessary. Also chase I through with tap and blow them out with air hose till dry.Cylinder head bolts could stretch; therefore if one side does not touch straight edge, replace it.All warped cylinder heads including those of head gasket as well as intake/exhaust manifolds will require confirmation from automotive machine shop. The lash adjusters, camshaft should then start putting back what was removed from the Head.Firstly new cylinder head gasket should carefully placed over dowel pins on block noting its orientation.Should now take it and carefully have the gasket in place without interfering with the dowels. When installing head bolts, clean engine oil should be applied to M10 bolt threads with chamfered side of washers facing bolt heads if used.M8 thread on sealant is to be applied on head bolts.Install the bolts in their original locations, finger-tighten and then using an angle meter measure torque plus degrees. Lastly install timing chain guides, timing chains and timing sprockets while refilling cooling system change oil filter and add oil before starting engine for leaks of oil or coolant.
