How to remove and reinstall the components of the engine, including the cylinder head in 3.6L V6 engine on Dodge Challenger?

To remove the components first you have to give the negative terminal of the battery a clean disconnect and on 2015 and later models you must disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor connector first. Lift the front of the vehicle with jackstands and then lower it, remove the engine oil and the coolant from the vehicle. Take off the drivebelt, air filter housing and resonator and disconnect all wires and vacuum hoses from intake manifolds and cylinder heads and label them for reuse. Continue with the deletion of intake manifolds, ignition coils, spark plugs, catalytic converter(s) and valve cover, crankshaft balancer, and oil pan. If working on the left cylinder head either unbolt the air conditioning compressor from the engine while still connected to the refrigerant lines, disconnect the main engine harness connectors and remove the upper intake support bracket. For the right cylinder head remove the following components: power-steering pump, heater core tube fasteners, battery, and battery-tray, and oil dipstick tube fastener. Take off the timing chain cover, turn the crankshaft clockwise to have the number one piston at the TDC of the exhaust stroke and make sure there are correct position of the cam phaser arrows. Take out the timing chain, oil control valves, timing chain tensioner, chain guides and camshafts as well as the rocker arms together with the lash adjusters bearing in mind that; rocker arms and lash adjusters should always be arranged in the correct sequence. Relax the cylinder head bolts in reverse sequence as a means of removal and lift the cylinder head off the block with use of a hammer and wood block without scratching the surfaces. Cylinder head: check and test as required. For installation make sure that the surfaces of the cylinder head and the engine block are clean, use a gasket scraper and brake cleaner. They should ensure that some sort of coverage is placed over the lifter valley just to remove most debris and to inspect the mating surfaces for damage. Align the new gasket with the dowel pins and put the cylinder head on the engine block; use new cylinder head bolts contracting the head to the block without applying oil on the threads beforehand. As previously stated, uninstall in reverse sequence, re-install the remaining components, replace engine oil and filter, fill the cooling system, start the engine and look for leaks and efficient performance.
