Chrysler Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the oil pump in 2.7L V6 engine on Chrysler 300?
    A:
The early model replacement oil pumps may suffer from collapsed oil pressure relief valve and spring, leading to oil pressure problems. These pumps do not have a threaded plug but an expansion plug that seals off the oil pressure relief valve and its spring within the pump. Do consult a dealer parts department or other qualified repairer of automobiles for the correct oil pump. First, remove the primary timing chain as well as crankshaft sprocket in order to pull out the oil pump. However, it should be ensured that marks on crankshaft sprocket match those located on housing of the pump before they are disengaged from one another. This would be followed by removal of both: oil pan along with an oil pick up tube on it. Then gently take away oil pump housing by prying forward on dowel pins until pump is clear of engine block at front of engine or supported through bolts attaching pump to engine block. Once removed, examine all parts for wear or damage to them; especially certain front coverings which could then be cleaned using solvents for purposes of removing any residual particles contaminating these components. In case sliding surface or even valve spring holding back an this valve are spoilt, these ought to be replaced otherwise intact items left alone. By use of feeler gauge together with micrometer / dial caliper ensure you verify clearance between different parts pertaining to respective oils pumps before crosschecking measurements against specified clearance values; when any clearance becomes too big then whole assembly should be changed out entirely that's if some gap is beyond tolerable extent concerning its constituent components. Ensure there is petroleum jelly packed into the pump first prior its installation whereby all fasteners must be tightened up according torques given while assembling this device once again though this time including such additional elements as valves springs and washers alongside caps just above valves themselves so that latter ones stay in place after reassembling entire unit afterwards making sure each rotor comes into line with one of the crankshafts flats and finally putting these screws back into block or tightening until all tightening torques have been met as outlined by manufacturer instructions. The rest of installation takes place opposite to removal.
  • Q: How to remove and reinstall Oil Pump in four cylinder engine on Chrysler Cirrus?
    A:
The oil pump pressure relief valve can be serviced without removing the oil pan and oil pick-up tube. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable from the ground stud on the left shock tower. Next, remove the oil pan and pick-up tube assembly, followed by the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket. For 2.4L engines, remove the oil filter. Detach the oil pump assembly from the engine, taking care to gently tap it with a soft-faced hammer if it does not come off by hand. Unscrew the mounting screws to remove the rotor assembly cover from the oil pump housing, and carefully withdraw the inner and outer rotors, ensuring no damage occurs as close tolerances are critical for correct oil pressure. Use a hammer and brass drift to remove and discard the crankshaft front seal from the oil pump housing, and also remove and discard the O-ring seal from the oil pump housing discharge port. Disassemble the relief valve assembly, noting the installation of the relief valve piston, and remove the cap bolt, washer, spring, and relief valve. Clean all components and inspect for excessive wear or damage, particularly the oil pressure relief valve piston sliding surface and valve spring, replacing them as a set if damaged. Measure the relief valve spring free length and compare it to the specified dimensions, replacing it if out of tolerance by more than 1/8 of an inch. Check the oil pump rotor dimensions and clearances with a micrometer or vernier calipers and a feeler gauge, replacing both rotors if any dimension is out of tolerance. Lubricate the relief valve piston, piston bore, and spring with clean engine oil, then install the relief valve piston with the grooved end first, followed by the spring and cap bolt, tightening the cap bolt to the specified torque. Lubricate the oil pump rotor recess and both rotors with clean engine oil, install them in the body, and fill the rotor cavity with clean engine oil before installing the cover and tightening the cover screws. Install a new O-ring in the oil discharge passage, apply anaerobic sealant to the oil pump body sealing surface, and position the pump assembly on the block, aligning the inner rotor and crankshaft drive flats, then tighten the oil pump attaching bolts. Install the new crankshaft front seal in the oil pump housing, followed by the crankshaft sprocket and timing belt. Reinstall the oil pump pick-up tube assembly and oil pan, then install a new oil filter. Lower the vehicle and fill the crankcase with the proper quantity and grade of oil. Finally, connect the negative battery cable to the ground stud on the left shock tower, and after the sealant has cured according to the manufacturer's directions, start the engine and check for leaks.
  • Q: What precautions should be taken when handling the oil pressure relief valve and oil pump during replacement in 3.5L V6 engine on Chrysler Sebring?
    A:
If the oil pressure relief valve is damaged do not take out the oil pressure relief valve, spring, and the plunging of the oil pump; replace the oil pump in-toto. First, the crankshaft sprocket should be undid together with the oil pan and then with the oil pump pick-up tube. Following this, flip the cover over and undo the four bolts securing it to the back of the oil pump housing to release the inner and outer rotors, pay attention to the installed orientation that you will be required to reinstall in its proper place. Wash all the components as a flood in solvent and check the face of the rotors, the inner surface of the pump cover and the exterior surface of the oil pump housing to look for nicks, scratches or burrs and replace the set if get damaged. Check the oil pump cover for warpage to a straightedge by using the feeler gauge in this size: if beyond these limits, replace the pump. Check the thickness and diameter of the outer rotor and in case of any thickness or diameter being less than the standard size as provided, replace the pump; confirm the thickness of the inner rotor and in case it is thin size as provided, replace the pump. Place the outer rotor into the oil pump housing so that it will rest against one end while using an inside micrometer that will read at the hole at the other end of the pump housing; if the clearance is larger than the maximum allowable, then the pump should be replaced. Screw in the inner rotor and check the free space between the lobes of the inner and outer rotors, the pump should be changed if the gap is larger than the permissible one, check that the mark on the inner rotor should be oriented to the top. Place a straight-edge across the face of the oil pump assembly to check the other side clearance from the face of the oil pump housing to the rotors; if more than the limit then change the pump. For installation, prime the oil pump by pouring in some engine oil in the housing of the pump and then put on the pump cover with the bolts being tightened to the prescribed degree of turn. The gasket should be fitted to the engine block mating surface, the flat surfaces in the rotor should be aligned with those on the crankshaft, while the oil pump housing should be put on the engine block. Last of all, fit the pump to block bolts and tighten to recommended torque and the work is done in a sequence which is reverse of dismantling.
