Partially drain the cooling system to a level that's slightly below the cylinder heads. For V6 engines, the ECT sensor is located at the front of the lower intake manifold on 2.7L and 3.5L engines, while on 3.6L engines, it is found on the rear of the left (driver's) cylinder head. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Ensure the cooling system is drained below the level of the sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor; for the 2.7L V6, depress the release tab to disconnect and then unscrew the sensor from the lower intake manifold. Using a deep socket, unscrew the ECT sensor from the lower intake manifold for 2.7L and 3.5L or from the left cylinder head for 3.6L. To prevent leakage and thread corrosion, wrap the threads of the ECT sensor with Teflon sealing tape before installation, whether using the old sensor or a new unit. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the ECT sensor is tightened to the specified torque. Refill the cooling system. For V8 engines, the ECT sensor is located on the front end of the engine block, below the air conditioning compressor. Remove the accessory drive belt, unbolt the air conditioning compressor, and set it aside without disconnecting any air conditioning pressure or return line fittings. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor and unscrew the sensor from the intake manifold. Using a deep socket, unscrew the ECT sensor from the intake manifold. Again, wrap the threads of the ECT sensor with Teflon sealing tape before installation. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the ECT sensor is tightened to the specified torque. Refill the cooling system.
